SOCIAL SERVICE

PRESBYTERIAN ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the Presbyterian Social Service Association was presided over by Mr R. L. Fairmald. The Rev. R. Scott Allan's resignation as Hospital chaplain was received with regret, and the Rev. R. McCully was appointed to succeed him. A report was received from the superintendent of the Dunedin Fire Brigade in regard to Are appliances at the Children’s Homes and the Ross Home. It was decided to agree to the suggestions contained in the report and put them into force as soon as possible.

The superintendent reported that the response being made to the annual egg appeal was very good, and that a considerable number of eggs had already been received. The Sunday school Christmas cheer appeal was following the same lines as former years, and special stamp booklets had been prepared and issued to the Sunday schools. The Rev. C. M. Sullivan reported on the South Dunedin extension work, and submitted the report of the deaconess. Sister Olive.

Mr Fairmald submitted the report of the manager of the Children’s Homes, Mr W, C. Roberts, which showed that there were 81 children in the homes, and that the usual seasonal work had been done on the farm and in the garden. Mr T, C. Ross submitted the Ross Home Committee’s report, which stated that there were 15 men and 35 women in residence at the home. It was reported that Miss M. Armstrong, who had been a member of the staff for over five year*, desired to resign her position. It was reported that an additional anonymous donation of £IOO from "Thankoffering Chape) Fund ” had been received, bringing the amount in hand to £759 16s 10d. An offer had been made of a communion table for the chapel. A report from the Work* Committee received consideration.
