BALCLUTHA Personal.—The death is reported of Pilot Officer Francis S. PUlans as the result of an aeroplane accident overseas. Pilot Officer Pillans was a grandson of Colonel Soltau Pillans. who formerly owned Pillan’s Station in the Pukeawa district, and whose family homestead was “ Myres,” Inch Clutha. His mother resides in Tauranga. Appeals Against Service.—The concluding cases before the Armed Forces Appeal Board at Balclutha on Wednesday were as follows: Neil Urquhart Gunn, farmer, Toiro, appealed on behalf of Hugh Urquhart Nell Gunn and John Edward Gunn, on the grounds of public interest and undue' hardship. Both appeals were dismissed. Hugh Gunn is not to be called up before December 31, and in the case of John Edward Gunn the appeal was adjourned sine die.—James Eric Brownlie, farmer, Warepa (Mr Kelly), appealed on the roii-id of public interest and undue hardship, and his appeal was supported by Robert Brownlie and the Primary Production Council. Adjourned sine die. the appellant to serve in the Home Guard at Warepa.—Mrs Helen Jane Wilson, farmer, Te Houka (Mr Kelly), appealed on behalf of James Richard Wilson, on the ground of public interest and undue hardship. Adjourned sine die.—Joseph Sheppard Bennett, of Walwera South (Mr Kelly), appealed for Charles Edward Bennett on the ground of public interest and undue hardship. Adjourned sine die, the reservist to serve in the territorials for the period, May, June. July.—James Gordon, of Toiro (Mr Kelly), appealed for Allison John Gordon, on the ground of public interest and undue hardship. Adjourned sine die, the reservist to serve in the Territorials for the period April-May-June.
