ANIMAL WELFARE WEEK
The Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is holding Animal Welfare Week from to-day to Sunday. October 5. The objects of this week are to remind citizens of the necessity of considering' the care of animals and birds, and to instil into the children a love of animals. Pamphlets have been distributed to schools throughout Otago, and headmasters of all schools have been asked to address the pupils, advising them at all times to show kindness to animals and birds. Ministers of churches and superintendents of Sunday schools have been aske>d to address the children on Sunday. September 28, or Sunday. October 5. Parents are also requested to impress on their children the necessity of showing kindness to animals. Experience has showm the society that very often cruelty is inflicted on animals through carelessness or thoughtlessness. If the people could be taught to consider the comfort and care of animals, needless suffering might be avoided. It is recognised that animals and birds will respond to kindness and become friendly. The society trusts that everyone will endeavour to assist it in carrying out its objects dui'ing Animal Welfare Week. The attention of children is drawn to the essay competition, open to all school children. Full particulars may be obtained from the editor of “Dot’s Little Folk,” or from the secretary of the society. Mr E. S. Wilson, Central' Chambers, 49 Bond street.
