THE REMUERA SEAT
MR ENDEAN’S CANDIDATURE NATIONAL PARTY BALLOT (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 27. A simple “ Yes ” dr “No ” answer is being sought from the members of the National Party in Remuera to the question whether they desire Mr W. P. Endean, their present member of Parliament, to be their candidate at the next general election. Ballot papers will be delivered to financial members of the party in the electorate to-mor-row, and they are returnable to the Electorate Committee by Monday. On the answers received will depend the next action of the committee. The papers have a brief statement to the effect that the committee had called for nominations but that the right to do so had been challenged. It was therefore desired to obtain the opinion of financial members concerning Mr Endean’s continued ture. If the majority were against Mr Endean, nominations would be called anew and another ballot, if necessary, would be taken. ; - When the committee recently called for nominations, the names of Miss E. Melville and Messrs J. H. Butland, B. ,H. Kingston, M. J. Moodabe, and A. Tronson were submitted. Mr Endean declined to allow his name to .go to the ballot, and later announced that he would stand as a National Independent candidate. Eleven days later the Leader of the Opposition, Mr S. G. Holland, said the matter had been referred to him and that he liad decided that Mr Endean would receive his full support and that of the Parliamentary Party, thus making him the official candidate.
