RANGE OF PRICES

The following quotations per 1001 b for beef and per lb for v mutton and pigs are supplied, with a comparison with last week’s prices, by our special representative at yesterday’s Burnside stock sale;—

There was nothing worth quoting In the store cattle section, a few small pens of boner cows only being penned. Vealers were In short supply and met a keen market. ' , r , ■ . Fifty-six dairy cows came forward, comprising mostly aged and inferior sorts. Good young cpws were in keen demand and made up to £9 10s. The yarding of fat sheep was an extra hdavy one and drew 2708 sheep. A good proportion Pf the ewes showed excellent duality, but there was also a tail-end of light and medium grades. Wethers were represented in fair numbers, some especially good consignments being included. Outside competition helped the market, but owing to the large entry prices for ewes were easier, heavy lines declining by Is. with lights and mediums down Is fld. Prime wethers met with/a sound demand, late values being well maintained- Good hoggets also sold firmly. Extra heavy wethers made to 38s 3d, prime 30s to 33s 6d, medium 25s 6d ,to 27s 6d. light halfbred 18s 6d to 23s 6d, extra prime young ewes to 29s 3d, extra prime ewes to 25s 9d, prime _2ls 3d to 23s 9d. medium 19s to 18s, light to ISs, prime hoegets to 32s fld, medium 22s 6d to 265. The largest yarding of fat pigs for some weeks came forward for yesterday's market, being comprised principally of light baconers and porkers. Heavy baconers were in short supply and met with an improved demand, while porkers Were in over-supply and sold at a reduction of 5s to 6s per head. Another large yarding of 151 store pigs came forward and prices remained firm, with the exception of suckers, which showed a rise of 4s to ss.
