COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA
ro THE EDITOR
Sir,—l attended the Communist meeting held in the Carroll Rooms on Sunday evening last, and was astonished at the effrontery of the principal speaker in labelling all and sundry who oppose the Communists’ methods. It was a poor tale he told his small audience, a repetition of quiet boasting of the purity of all Communist intentions. All non-Communist intentions and actions were dubbed “ fifth column.” In fact, the speaker threw the term about just about as freely as
the players threw the football around at Carisbrook on the previous day. Several speakers pointed out some obvious mis-statements during his speech, but the speaker seemed surprised to think that anyone was doubting his statements, as they were quoted from reliable Communistic sources, etc. The efforts of the local Communists to come back to public favour on the strength of the Soviet’s great ' war effort are rather pitiful. Their effrontery is astounding, and borders on the impudent, as they ; claim to represent the workers and give, no credit to the Labour Government’s Splendid legislative effort to improve the lot of the workers of this country. ■Surely the workers can see through this shallow assumption.—-I am. etc..
