SHAKESPEARE CLUB
PUBLIC READING As in everydav dife. Nature provides rich contrasts, so in Shakespeareis play, ■'The Winter’s Tale,” the characters are strongly contrasted. There is Leontes, the jealous king, and his unsuspecting friend, Polixenes; Hermione. the dignified, patient queen, and Pauline, her hot-tempered, outspoken champion. We are taken from the atmosphere of the court to the joys of the simple life of the country, to the shepherds and the sheep-sheanng. and the merry, roguish pedlar with his fairings. In the lovely pastoral scene there is nothing more charming than the description of Perdila with her flowers at the feast. The reading of this play will be given in the Concert Chamber on Monday, August, 18. The cast includes the following:—Messrs J. W. Hayward, A. F. Lanyon, D. Cl Rose, J. Cumberbeach, N. - McKinlay, C. Ranks, M. Joel. A. Ellis, H. W. Hunter, Mesdames Withers and Thomson, Misses McLay, S. Seelen. and H. Smith The soloists will be Mr Raymond Wentworth. The box plan is open at the D.I.C. ,
