APPEALS AGAINST MILITARY SERVICE
tO THE EDITOR "
Sir*—l see-that married men„up to 46 years Of age are'to be required to register for military service. -Does the Government really mean to call the' married men up before all the single men go overseas? I think that all should go that are called up, and not be allowed to appeal? to the court. We all know of cases where single men have appealed and been let off when there are other men at home, to work the farm. In another "Case a young man appealed - and was not given exemption. H«. has only his old father left ..to look; after-the farm when he goes away. Why this unfair treatment? All should go when called on, especially the single men. I know of one case where the young man concerned goes out working. Surely the others left on the farm should be able to carry on.—l am, etc., Fair Play.
Oamaru, June 14. - FThe Acting Minister of National Service has stated that it is not anticipated that any married men will be ballotted until towards the end of« the year.—Ed. O.D.T.]
