OTAGO WOMEN’S CLUB

' GARDENING CIRCLE In a talk given by Mr Vallange to the Gardening Circle of the Otago Women’s Club on Tuesday, the speaker pointed out that the Japanese chrysanthemum should be pinched early in October, and also later, when the first crown bud should be pinched. The singles required pinching once orily, in late November. If pinching were left too late the wood might not ripen, this also being the case if plants were not grown in an open, sunny position. Singles were easily raised from seed. If sown in August (and not pinched) they would flower in May. The speaker had raised 1000 thus, selecting only a few fine ones, which were shown. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs Fitzgerald. Miss Martin was in the chair.
