It may be softened by heat or possibly by an application of raw Oil. A. J. P. (Pine Hill).—Your question cannot Be answered definitely. It. depends upon the vigour of the cockerel. Fertilised eggs may be produced three weeks after the male has been ;re:'moved'from the pen, but to be safe you should not rely on their presence i'Viafter 10 days or a fortnight. Further, on the introduction of a fresh male to the breeding pen allow 14 : days or ,a fortnight before regarding all eggs as fertilised. A male should not have more than 12 or 15 hens to • give a fair average of fertilised eggs. "Inquirer." Waiareka.—A spinster 59 years of age who has no other income ■ than that derived from £2OO in the bank, and who, according to medical evidence; is permanently totally incapacitated for work, is entitled to an invalid pension of 30s a week. When the age of 60. is reached she will be transferred to;the age benefit at the ' same rate. \-
