BALCLUTHA Personal.—Mr A. K. Baxter. Clutha County clerk, has passed the entrance examination for the Air Force.—Mr A. A. Campbell, a member of Uie South Otago High School Board, has resigned. He intends to enter Into business in Tapanui.—Mr P. Kellar, district engineer of the Public Works Department, was reelected chairman of the Lower Clutha River Trust, and Mr J. G. Weir was appointed deputy chairman. The committees as previously constituted were reelected. School Attendance.—Twenty-five' pupils of the Hlllend School are now being brought in by bus to attend the Balclutha Primary School. The service commenced on Tuesday. River Trust Contract. —At a meeting of the Lower Clutha River Trust the tender of Clutha Gravel Supply Company was accepted for the carting of rock for the new lock at Messrs Marshall and Mosley’s, Inch Clutha. The amount to be expended will not exceed £465. Rugby Football.—Referees for Saturday are; Senior Competition—Clinton v. Crescent, at Kaitangata (Mr D. Inglis); Clutha South v. Catllns, at Owaka (Mr H. Jackman): Toko v. Clutha North, at Balclutha (Mr C. Williams), Junior CompetitionCrescent v. Toko, at Milton (Mr T. Hansen): Clutha a bye. MILTON Borough Council.—The installation of the newly-elected council took place this week, the Mayor, Mr W. 3. Cockburn, being the Installing officer. The Mayor nominated his committees as follows: Finance and Hall—Crs U. Walker (chairman), I. W. Lee and J. W. Anderson; Works, Water and Lighting—Crs P. W. R. Gray (chairman), R. J. Price and J. W Keogh; Reserves, Cemetery and Saleyards—Crs H. G. McClymont, H. Wilson and A. R. Sellars. The Mayor was appointed, ex-officio, a member of each committee.—The Mayor nominated Cr Price as Deputy Mayor in honour of his having topped the poll in the ballot, but Cr Price declined the position owing to the nature of his employment and Cr Walker was again appointed to the position. Both Crs Price and Walker 1 briefly returned thanks.—The Mayor retired while the question of his honorarium was discussed and a motion that he should be granted £52 a year was carried. Personal.—The Rev. A. J. T. Fraser, vicar of St. John’s Church, Milton, and Mrs Fraser and their daughter left on Tuesday for Gladstone (Invercargill), to which charge Mr Fraser has been appointed after about three years and ahalf’s ministry at Milton. The newlyappointed minister, the Rev. H. Hook, i from the parochial district of Waitaki, will be instituted by the Bishop of Dunedin this evening. Mr Graves (Mosgiel), During the function a short programme was presented by tile follow-ing;--Piano solos. Daphne Cockerill and Joan McLean: dances, June Hills anc, Patricia Campbell; recitation. Rylvie Cockerill; solo, Vola Haynes, and items by the children's choir. Safe and Well.— Cabled advice has been received by Mrs J. B. Gray, of Milton, from her husband, Captain J. B. Gray, that he is safe and well.
