QUEENSTOWN Rovers’ Basketball Club. —The annual meeting of the Rovers' Basketball Club was held recently. There were present: Dr Anderson (president), Mrs L. Vient, Misses L. White, P. Downey, A. Johnston, H. Buckham and J. Anderson. The following office-bearers were elected: —President, Miss L. White; vice-presidents—Mes-dames W. Hales. W. Davies, J. Cockburn, C. M. Ingiis and Miss Mulholland; secretary, Miss Joyce Anderson: auditor, Mr W. D. Warren. The appointment of captain was held over. It was decided to write to Captain Herbert, of the Tourist Department, thanking him for the use of the park courts. It was also decided to ask for the use of the Garrison Hall. Rugby Football. Country Pirates (Athol) and the Queenstown football teams played a match on the local ground on Saturdaj'. The game ended in favour of Queenstown by 14 points to 9. The Weather. —The weather during the past week has been changeable, and ,92in of rain has fallen. Temperatures have been mild, and autumn growth has been stimulated. Poppy Day Sales.—The total amount realised from Poppy Day sales in Queenstown and district was £l9. Arrow district raised £ls 11s Bd. RANFURLY Rugby Sub-union.—The following is the draw for the first two matches in the senior competition:—May 17. Ida Valley v Naseby; Southern v. Ranfurly; May 24, Naseby v. Southern, at Patcaroa: Ranfurly v Ida Valley, at Oturehua. The games will be played on the ground of the lastmentioned club, and will commence noi later than J p.m.
LAWRENCE Collie Dog Club.—At the annual meeting of the Tuapeka Collie Dog Club, Mr Kennedy presided. The balance sheet disclosed a credit balance of £42 2s lOd. The following officers were elected;—President, Mr A. J. Crawford: joint secretaries, Messrs J. Colgan and J. A. Robertson: patrol steward. Mr P. Kennedy; judge, Mr L. H. Tilson (Paretai). It was decided to hold the trials on June 24, 25 and 26—Mr T, Ross (Henley) offered to present a cup, which was accepted with thanks, and it was decided to award it to the local maiden class. Lady Galway Guild.—The monthly meeting of the Lady Galway Guild was held in St. Patrick’s Hall on Thursday afternoon, about 50 ladies attending. A quantity of clothing was packed to be forwarded to Hamilton as exhibits in the Waikato Show, In addition, 30 patchwork quilts were packed and sent to headquarters in Dunedin. During ihe afternoon tea adjournment, Mrs R. C. Moore, on behalf of the members, made a suitable presentation to Mrs R. F. Batchelor, the retiring president, and spoke of the work and interest taken in the affairs of the guild by Mrs Batchelor during her term of office. The recipient suitably responded.
