PIONEER WOMEN
MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION In its second annual'report the committee of the Otago Pioneer Women's Memorial Association, Ltd., regrets that owing to. the serious condition in which the Dominion finds itself, engaged as it is in a fierce struggle for its very existence, no active work has been undertaken by the association this year. Only one general meeting has been held, that being on March 25, to arrange details for the annual meeting and the election of officers, in accordance with the rules of the constitution. On December 1, 1940, on behalf of the committee, a posy of flowers was sent to Mr and Mrs John Coombs with an accompanying note conveying the congratulations and good wishes of the association on the celebration of the seventieth anniversary of their wedding. Although no canvassing for subscriptions was engaged in, the committee is pleased to report the receipt of a few donations to the memorial fund. A sub-committee was appointed in March of this year to investigate the effer of a building which, it wa.s thought by the present owners, might be suitable as premises for this association. The committee recognised that in any case it could be used only as temporary premises to supply the more urgent needs of the organisations comprising the association, until the permanent memorial building took shape. The report of the sub-committee is no 1 , yet to hand. The thanks of the association are extended to the honorary officials and to others who have assisted in the work
