PARADE IN AUCKLAND COLLECTION BY JUGOSLAV GIRLS (PA) AUCKLAND, May 10. Girls attired in,the picturesque costumes of Jugoslavia provided: festive scenes "in "the main city street's, to-day collecting for the Fighting Forces Fund as a patriotic gesture made by the Jugoslav community when they found that they were unable to forward assistance ' to the people of their own stricken country. A generous response was made by the citizens, who thronged the city streets in large numbers in anticipation of a parade of 12,000 members of the Home Defence services and Emergency Precautions Organisation. The parade assembled at the Domain, leaving at 2 o'clock and proceeding six abreast via the Grafton bridge, Karangahape road, and Queen street past the Town Hall, where the Gover-nor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) took the salute. Included in the parade were a 28-ton tank and a number of Bren gun carriers and mechanised field guns. The parade was played from point to point by 17 stationary bands, and a feature was the first public appearance of the Auckland Scottish unit in Black Watch kilts.
VALUE OF PARADE GOVERNOR-GENERALS APPRECIATION (P.A.) ' AUCKLAND, May 11. The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, has sent the' following" telegram to the Acting Prime Minister, Mr W. Nash:— " Will you please convey to all concerned my appreciation of the bearing of all who took part in the official parade held in Auckland? In this time of crisis. I am certain such parades can but inspire' and encourage all citizens of the Dominion to play their part to the full.in- the prosecution of the war to a victorious, conclusion."
