THE GREAT LEVANTE

DUNEDIN SEASON " It's fun to be fooled, and the Great Levante can fool you properly," one will say after seeing Levante, master magician, present his aptly-named revue, " How's Tricks?" As well as the magic by Levante, there is a brightly varied programme of dancing, specialty and musical items. Artists who assist Levante include Esme Levante and her Eastern maids noted English portrayer of Oriental dancing; " Melba," England's greatest shadowgraphist; Rex and Bess, specially artisi.s who have come direct from appearing with Jack Hylton's famous band; " The Modemiques," renowned Anglo-American exponents of the latest dances; Protea, an act beautifully presenting a delightful kaleidoscope of scenes and tableaux: the Mayfair Four, instrumental and vocal harmonists; and Levante's famou., London Glamour Girls " Mow's Tricks? " is described as the acme of modern production. Costumes and settings arc as delightful and refreshing as the actual performance and magical effects, in keeping with the production, are introduced in many of the ballets. Frocks patterned with designs done in coloured phosphorescent paint are worn by the ballel dancers in one scene. The lights on the stage are dimmed, so that all that can be seen is the luminous patterns of the frocks which appear to be doing a strange but beautifully graceful dance all of their own accord. In another particularly spectacular ballet the dancers wear Javanese costumes, richly encrusted with gold and jewels and fashioned with perfect artistry. The Dunedin season will commence on Thursday night at His Majesty's Theatre, and the first matinee will be given on Saturday. The box plans are at the D.I.C.
