BASELESS NAZI CLAIMS “ SUNKEN ” WARSHIPS (British Official Wirelesst - RUGBY , Feb. 10. (Received Feb. 11, at 8 p.m.) Mr Churchill’s speech revealed that all the necessary repairs had been made to the Illustrious in Malta Harbour, and she steamed safely off to Alexandria under her own power. It is interesting to recall German broadcast claims in this respect. The Zeesen radio stated: “It will scarcely be disputed that the most serious loss the navy suffered was that of the Illustrious. Whether she lingers on the surface or has gone to the bottom, it is quite certain that she cannot be used any more during the war.’’’ Another extract from a broadcast lie is recalled by yesterday’s Admiralty communique on the heavy bombardment of Genoa by the Renown, the Malaya, the Ark Royal, etc. The Rome radio, in Italian, on January 17. said: “Perhaps in the course of the next few days there will be an admission of the torpedoing of the Malaya and other cruisers or destroyers which were extensively damaged or sunk.”
