•PROGRESS OF;CONSTRUCTION EARLY COMPLETION OF MAIN WORK Good progress has been made recently by the building contractors with the Centennial Memorial at Signal HUI. and it is estimated that they will complete their work within about six weeks. A certain amount: of difficulty has been experienced in securing marble for the bastion, and this may prove the main factor in any delay m the completion of the final work on the memorial. .• ' . Only the erection of the flag-pole is necessary to complete the dedication block. The pole, which is of steel, was used at the Centennial Exhibition. It is being polished and zinc-sprayed in Dunedin. The bronze metal base for the pole, weighing over lcwt. is also being made in Dunedin. The steps to the dedication block, also those in the front of the memorial, have been completed. ■■ .; , ' ~ The construction of two location finders is finished, except for the metal-work on top. The foundation of the floor of the memorial is in place, and work will begin on the laying of the paving blocks on Monday. Although the paving consists mostly of pre-cast concrete blocks, a number, of fan-shaped, coloured ones will have to be cast "en the job," and the paving work is expected to occupy a month. ■
