POWER SUPPLY
SOUTH ISLAND NETWORK EFFICACY OF SYSTEM <Special to Dailx Times; - INVERCARGILL, Dec. 26. Very little of the electric power required for Southland has been generated at Monowai during the last few weeks, when the bulk of the southern load has been carried by the Waitaki generating station. The co-ordination of the network of South Island stations established by the Public Works Department has proved most beneficial in adapting the power loads to the water supply available at the different stations
Several months ago. when the water supply at Monowai was plentiful, a considerable share of the load was carried by the Southland station, and the level of the lake fell by several feet. During November, the flow at Waitaki became much stronger and that station took over the greater share of the Southland load. Lake Monowai is now being allowed to fill gradually, and there will be a substantial reserve of water power there later in the season when the other South Island stations located east of the ranges are less favourably supplied. The new co-ordination system permits the operation of the network with a maximum of efficiency, and ensures that the growing demand can be met.
