MR WEBB'S SPEECHES

fO THE EDITOR . Sir,—Mr Webb is running true to type. In trying to get out ofrhis.awKward corner he gets more deeply involved. He informs the world, that his Government has big interests in the junk which is the only stuff procurable now that the beautiful English goods are shut out. Ask the ladies what sort, of silk stockings, they have now to be content'with and asklnem again about the price demanded and how this price compares with, that or the quality goods of a few years: ago. It would be interesting to return to the methods the Government uses for boosting its junk over the /-air by urging listeners to buy on . the time payment system. This makes 1 me-won-der just how many foolish:.people are paying to-day for last year's purchases. We have it straight from -the. horses mouth, however, that the: : Socialist Government is very. interested.. Perhaps. Mr Webb will tell .Us some more. .It. seems strange that after, all the trouble Ministers have taken to conceal from their voters that they will have to buy their junk, for it is all ■they- will ; get, that One Of their chosen should let the cat out of the bag. Another point, Sir, is the capacity these people have for collecting antiBritish material over the air. On Sunday morning an educated prelate was turned on telling the Dominion in no uncertain terms that "We did not belong to Britain " and are not compelled to fight for her There must be many of our British New Zealanders who are frankly puzzled. This person was put on immediately following the indifferent Daventry news with which we are now favoured. I wonder how Mr Webb will justify this statment. We are, however, still awaiting Mr Fraser s support or opposition to the West Coast harangue.—l am, etc., British.
