AIRMAN DECORATED
DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS NEW ZEALAND PILOT-OFFICER (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. Oct. 16. Details of the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross recently to Pilotofficer Colin Falkland Gray, a New Zealander serving with the Boyal Air Force, have been received by Air Headquarters. The extract states that since May, 1940, he has flown continuously with his squadron on offensive patrols. He took part in the Dunkirk operations and subsequently throughout air operations over the Kentish coast and in the protection of Channel shipping. He shot down four Messerschmitt 109’s and cne Dorner 215. His courage and determination contributed materially to maintaining the high morale of his squadron. He is a twin brother of Pilot-officer Kenneth Neil Gray, who was also awarded the D.F.C. in January and was later reported killed on active service.
Pilct-offlcer Colin Gray will be 26 next month. He was educated at Christ’s College, Christchurch, Wellesley College, Wellington, and the. Napier Boys’ High School. He was accepted for a short-service commission with the R.A.F. in 1938, when he left for the United Kingdom. His father is Mr R. L. Gray, of Gisborne.
