TRAINS COLLIDE
SEVERAL CARRIAGES DERAILED PASSENGERS BADLY SHAKEN (Per United Press Association) TAURANGA, Oct. 16. A ballast goods train collided wuh the rear of a stationary passenger train at Otumoetai to-day. Both trains were coming from Katikati to Tauranga and the ballast train over-ran its stop, the impact forcing a number of passenger coaches from the rails. The platform and couplings were damaged, and one passenger. Mr R. Rowe, received a gashed thumb while others were severely shaken. A breakdown gang was immediately rushed from Tauranga and the line was cleared by 2 p.m.. when the morning express from Tauranga was able <o continue its delayed journey to Auckland. The passengers had previously been conveyed by special service cars to Katikati to entrain for Auckland.
