OBITUARY

MRS MARY REVIE The sudden passing cf Mrs Mary Revle at her residence at Tapanlii on Tuesday last cast a gloom over the township and district, and removes one of the oldest identities, who was held in the highest esteem throughout the locality. Although she had reached the ripe age of 81 years. Mrs Revie enjoyed good health practically up to the last, having been confined to her bed only five days before her passing, which came as a shock to her relatives and friends ■ Mrs Revie ■ was the eldest daughter of the late-James and Margaret Scott, and was born at Moa Flat station in 1859. Her father was engaged as stockman for Messrs Chalmers Bros., the first proprietors of the Moa Flat estate, which comprised a considerable area in those davs, and Mr and Mrs Scott’s eldest daughter had the credit of being the first female child born in that locality. After leaving Moa Flat the deceased went with her parents to Waipahi, and later to Waiwera. where her father took up land She received her education at a private bearding school at Milton. About 1875 she returned to the Tapanui district and in 1883 married the late Mr Archibald Revie, who was pastoral manager for the late Mr David McKellar, of Brooksdale. After residing there for some four years she removed to “Avondale.” Crookston. where her late husband purchased the property at present occupied by her son, Mr J D Revie. living there for ever 30 years On their retirement from the farm 21 years ago, the late Mr and Mrs Revie came to live at Tapanui. Mr Revie predeceasing his wife 16 years ago Gifted with a kindly nature. Mrs Revie endeared herself to a very wide circle of friends and was well known for her hospitality. .generosity and sterling character Although unable to attend church latterlv. she was a keen and devoted member of the Presbyterian Church and one of the oldest members. She is survived by one son Mr John Duncan Revie. (Crrokston) and one daughter (Mrs W. Barron. Morton Mains), and also one brother, Mr James Scott (Milton), and one sister. Mrs Scott (Invercargill).
