DOUBLE ACCIDENT

CARS IN COLLISION HEALTH CAMP MATRON KILLED SEVERAL OTHERS INJURED (Special ro Daily Times) WELLINGTON. Sept. 30. Fatal injuries were received by Miss O. Gould, matron of the Otaki Children’s Health Camp, and several other people were,injured in an unusual double accident near Waikanae last evening. The injured included Mi Neate, father of Dr F, A. H. Neate (Otaki), who received a fracture of both bones in the left leg. and W. H. Wills (Otaki). the former principal of the Otaki Maori College. Mr Neate and Mr Wills were admitted to a private hospital in Levin; It is understood that their injuries are not serious. The first acbident occurred about 6.45 p.m., when Dr Neate’s car, travelling north, struck a stationary vehicle. Dr Neate was slightly injured. He had several passengers in his car, one of them being Mr Wills. Three others in the doctor’s car were also slightly injured. They were Mr Max Fielding (Otaki), Mr Stanley Elliott v Otaki), wh' received a partial fracture of the jaw, and Mr Kobe Winterburn (Otaki), who had his nose and mouth injured. While the first accident was being attended to, another car, driven by Mr William A. Paris (Palmerston North), and also travelling north, struck Dr Neate’s car. Miss Gould, who was standing on the road at the time, was severely injured She had driven Dr ITeate’s father to the scene of the original smash. Mr Neate was also standing on the road when the second accident occurred. Constable W. A. Calwell (Otaki), who was called to the scene of the first smash, was also standing nearby when the second car collided with Dr Neate’s vehicle, and he was br„uised on both legs. Mr Fielding, who was slightly injured in the first smash, was further bruised when the second collision occurred. Mr Paris had four passengers in his car, some of whom were slightly injured. Dr E. G. Atmore, also of Otaki, attended the accident and treated several people for bruises and abrasions. Two of the cars were extensively damaged.
