MAYOR’S RELIEF FUND

THE YEAR’S ACTIVITIES MANY APPLICATIONS FOR ASSISTANCE The annual accounts and statements of the Mayor’s relief organisation were presented to the Executive Committee at a meeting on Tuesday. The accounts show that the depot purchases of fuel, clothing, footwear, and leather for the 12 months amounted to £5484 The balance of the xpenditure for the year (mounted to £470, covering sundry grants, office expenses, sales tax, and grocery prders. Included in the receipts was the sum of £5131, received as grants from f he Government Art Union Fund. During the year the Necessitous Cases Committee held 37 meetings and dealt with 815 applications for assistance. The relief granted amounted to £1153. The thanks of the committee are. tendered to the following for their assistance in investigating applications received;—The Presbyterian Social Service Association Sister Olive, Nurse Torrance (of Knox Church), the Savation Army, and Mr T. Cobclen. An analysis of depot sales discloses that 18,575 bags of coal were distributed during the year.
