WESTERN SAMOA
CONTRIBUTION TO WAR EFFORT (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph— Copyright) APIA, Aug. 7. (Received Aug. 7, at 9 p.m.) A public meeting was held to consider Western Samoa's war effort and to hear the report of the committee previously set up and elect a permanent committee to continue the efforts to raise £SOOO. In a little over a week £ 673 has been received, and there are good prospects of securing the full amount. The original committee was re-elected, with the addition of further members, including three leading Samoan high chief—Malietoa, Tamasese, and Mataafa. The Acting Administrator, Mr A. C. Turnbull, was elected chairman of the committee.
Captain H. M. Rushworth, formerly member of Parliament for the Bay of Islands, gave an interesting address on his experiences in the Great War and some aspects of the present war.
