DUNEDIN BOWLING CLUB
ANNUAL SOCIAL PRESENTATION OF PRIZES The annual social of the Dunedin Bowling Club was held last night, Mr W. G. Robertson, vice-president, occupying the chair in the absence of the president. Mr H. Gardiner, through illness. A lengthy toast list was honoured but the feature of the evening was the presentation of the prizes won by members of the club during the past season. A musical programme was contributed at intervals during the evening. The prize list was as follows: - South Island Championships.— Singles, J. Veitch; fours, J. C. Rigby, J. D. Best. J. Hutchison and W.-Ander-son. Mr J. Forster made the presentations. Centre Competitions. Saturday Shield. Dunedin Club; Adess Shield, Dunedin Club. These presentations were made by Mr J* J. Davis, president of the Dunedin Centre, and Mr S. Devereaux, a member of the New Zealand Council, respectively Congratulations were also . offered to the winner of the Dunedin Champion of Champions. W. Anderson (Portobello Club), and the runner-up, D. Gardiner (Dunedin Club). ' Club Tie Competitions.—Singles championship. D. Gardiner 1, J. Veitch, runner-up; handicap singles, A. E. Silver 1, J. Veitch runner-up; colts singles. G. S. Kirby 1, P. Evans runnerup; champion pairs, D. Rewcastle and son 2; club pairs. J. Doolan and T. McHugh 1, G. Batham and K. Morrison 2 Mr W. G. Robertson made the presentations. In the club championship, D. Gardiner holds the Mercer Badge, and in the championship pairs D. Rewcastle and J. Marshall hold the McDiarmid Medals for the second year in succession. . . TT Billiard Competitions. Handicap billiards. W. Ogg 1. K. Morrison 2; handicap Chinaman, E. Hodge 1, W. Hutchison, on behalf of the winning four at the South Island Championship, presented the club with a framed photograph of the successful ri Special presentations were made to Mr M. Higgins in recognition of the valuable work he has done for the clup. and to Mr J. Durie, who is leaving the club after a long term of membership. He is one of the six surviving club members of those whose photograph appeared in the Bowling Annual of 1906. The toast list was as follows: New Zealand Bowling Council and the Dunedin Bowling Centre,” proposed by Mr H. L. Smith and replied to by Mr J. Forster (vice-president of the New Zealand Council), and Mr J. J. Davis (president of the, Dunedin Centre); “Sister Clubs.” proposed by Mr A W. Smith and replied to by Mr Standage (Kaituna) and Mr J. Butler (Mornington) . A special toast, “ The Empire and the Allied Fighting Forces,” was proposed by Mr H, J. Hamill in a striking speech. The contributing entertainers were Messrs Gil Dech, Lex Macdonald, W. Walker and B, McConnell.
