OBITUARY

MR W. J. CRAWFORD

The death occurred on Saturday,, in his seventy-third year, of Mr William John Crawford, who prior to his retire- , ’ ment in 1937. was for many years Lloyd’s, surveyor in Dunedin. Mr Crawford was born in Wellington, and served his apprenticeship as a marine engineer with Messrs Morgan and Cable, P.i- Chalmers He afterwards joined the Union Steam Ship Company iand on retiring from that service with ' the rank of chief engineer, he was ap-‘ pointed Government inspector of machinery in Dunedin. In 1920 he was appointed surveyor to Lloyds Register in Dunedin, in which position he remained until he retired .in 1937. In his youth he was a member of the Port Chalmers Naval Cadets, and he also took a keen interest in rowing and football. In later life he took up bowling, and was a member' of the Kaituna Club. Mr Crawford had a bright and pleasing personality, and he will be sadly missed by a very large circle of friends. His wife survives him. i. .
