AUSTRALIAN COAL STRIKE SERIOUS EFFECT ON STEEL INDUSTRY SYDNEY, Mar. 23. The Newcastle correspondent of the Sydney Morning Herald says it is generally expected that if the coal strike continues production at the Broken v Hill Proprietary’s steel works will practically be suspended within the next few weeks. This in turn will lead to the dismissal o*. men. from industries dependent on the steel works for raw materials. A motion was carried at the Easter Labour Conference pledging the support of the State branch of - the A.LJP. for the striking coal miners. It was decided that all members of the party should pay a levy of Is a week towards financing the strike. The voting at the Easter Labour Conference indicated that Mr Lang and his supporters were defeated in the elation of conference officials.
