MACHIN SHIELD MATCH OTAGO SUCCESSFUL AN EXCITING FINISH (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 21. With a first innings lead of 21 runs, the Otago women’s cricket team staved off a determined second innings challenge from Canterbury yesterday t 6 obtain possession of the Mary Machin Shield. The finish was packed with thrills. Playing against time, Canterbury took wicket after wicket to see the last pair take strike with 15 minutes to go, but they played out time without scoring.
