GARDENING CLUB

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The Dunedin Gardening Club held its fortnightly meeting on Tuesday evening, when the president (Mr J. Passmore) gave an address on gardening generally. with the cold greenhouse arid the question of Keeping it furnished all the year round, starting in the spring with spring plants and bulbs such as cinerarias, and following on with calceolarias, Schizanthus, primulas, and, for the summer months, begonias, fuchsias and pelargoniums, and,.for autumn, chrysanthemums. It was necessary for good results, that the greenhouse should be kept clean and free from pests. A garden frame was a good asset in any garden, and it was a necessary adjunct to the greenhouse. The soil for general potting should consist of well rotted turf, old manure and a tenth part of sand with a dusting of superphosphate. Mr Passmore also dealt with the vegetable and flower garden; dahlias and gladioli. Gladioli, if the seed was sown as soon as it was ripe would flower in 18 months. Mr Passmore also dealt with seed sowing and growing bulbs in fibre. At the conclusion of his address he was accorded a vote of thanks on the motion of Mrs A. S. Falconer. A number of well-grown seasonable flowers were exhibited by members.
