WHEAT FOR SEED
PRACTICE OF CERTIFICATION REQUEST TO DEPARTMENT (Feb United Press Association; CHBISTCHURCH, Nov. 23. There is every possibility that the Department of Agriculture, will not proceed with its plans for abandoning as an economy measure the certification of seed wheat, a matter of vital interest to farmers and millers, since certification guarantees the quality and the yield. This morning members of the Wheat Committee and South Canterbury growers met the director of the fields division (Mr R. B. Tennent), and told him that to stop certification would be a retrograde step. Mr Tennent replied; that he would discuss the situation with the Minister of Agriculture (Mr W. Lee Martin) on his return to Wellington, and he felt confident that the request for continuing the scheme would meet with favourable consideration.
