WANAKA

Change In Weather Wanaka, after enjoying six weeks of summer weather, is now experiencing frosts and cold, blustery conditions. Fresh snow has fallen on the ranges, and the lake is rough and unsettled. Angling Fishing conditions have been fair, and a few good fish have been taken from Lake Hawea by visiting fishermen and local sportsmen, Mr Manson, of Wanaka, procured several up to 41b from Lake Hawea in the week-end. Personal Mrs Winston Brinsley returned to Dunedin during the week-end. Mr D. Reid and Mr Greenfield, of Dunedin, have been enjoying a week's fishing at Lake Hawea. Miss Dorothy Paterson, of St. Clair, Dunedin, is the guest of Miss J. Scaife, Giendhu. Mr and Mrs A. C. Paterson returned to Dunedin this week. Bed Cross Society The following were successful in the home nursing examination held recently: —Mesdames R. Scott, G. Trevathan, K. Davie and B. Umbers, Misses E. Templeton, B. Halliday, T. Ironside, J. Anderson, W. Robertson, J. Weatherall and M. Jackson. Mrs K. Davie was successful in the first aid examination. Upper Clutha A. and P. Society Tlie sixth annual meeting of the Upper Clutha A. and P. Society was held on October 27, Mr J, S. Hunt presiding. Moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet. Mr Hunt drew the attention of members to the increased costs of running the show, some unpaid expenditure having been brought forward from 1938. A small net profit of approximately £ls was shown. . Mr Hunt expressed his appreciation of the keen co-operation of the committee and members. Mr Hunt also expressed the desire to continue the show next year. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr H. Stokes; vice-presidents, Mr S. Faulks and Mr S. Jenkins. Several new members were elected to the committee. Mr Stokes thanked the members for his election. The meeting resolved to hold the show as usual at Pembroke towards the middle of March.
