Cricket Results The local cricket fixtures, which commenced on Saturday, resulted as follows: —At Lowburn the home team defeated Clyde by 136 runs to 54. ■ For Lowburn. W. Brown, sen., 40, F. Partridge, sen., 25, and Baden Partridge 21 were the top scorers, whilst Partridge and D. Henderson accounted for all the wickets At Cromwell, Excelsior A (110) drew with Cromwell A (eight wickets for 100 runs). Cromwell B met Excelsior B at Alexandra, and suffered defeat by 201 runs to 99. Aurora Australis A display of the Aurora Australis was witnessed on Friday and Saturday nights. On Saturday night the display was particularly bright at times and lasted for several hours. A large portion of the south-western sky was lit up a vivid red, which alternately faded, brightened and changed Into long streamers of pale blue light. Angling Conditions for anglers have not as yet been favourable. Rivers in the district are still running slightly higher than usual, and over the week-end a northerly wind made fishing unpleasant. So far fishermen have met with only moderate success. Miniature Shooting At the weekly shoot of the Railway Rifle Club, held on the club’s range, the average was 77.4 for the top 10 men. The gold button was won by J. Anderson and the silver button by H. Bayly. The secretary’s team had a win in the Hunt Cup competition. The scores were as follows:—J. Anderson 79—1—80, W. Webb 79—scr—79. Joe Johnston 78—3—80, C. McDougall 78—4-80, A. Pryor 78—2 —BO, G. Phllpott 77—4—80. G. Robertson 77—1—78, H. Bayly 76—5—80, F. Longman 75 —3—78, A. Johnston 751—76, D. Miller 755 —80, J. Treloar 75—4—79, Jack Johnston 73—3—76, V. Sanders 72—1—73. The Cromwell Railway and Cromwell Ladles’ Clubs held a successful wind-up evening on October 5. During the evening the patron of the club (Mr J. C. Par cell) presented trophies won during the season, the winners being as follows: J. C. Parcell’s aggregate cup: W. Webb (1426 points) 1, J. Anderson (1414 points) 2, F. Longman (1398 points) 3. Harrison Memorial Shield (handicap): H. Bayly (1432) 1, J. Anderson (1431) 2, W. Webb (1428) 3, V. Sanders (1427) 4. Hunt Cup competition between President’s and Secretary’s teams: President (11 wins) 1, Secretary (8 wins) 2. Mitchell Cup (best in 12 out of 16 nights, under 77 average, with handicap): G, Phllpott (954 points) 1. D Miller (952) 2. J. Treloar (951) 3 Club trophies in monthly shoots were won by G. Phllpott, C. McDougall and V Sanders. J. C. Parcell’s trophy was won by V. Sanders. The president’s trophy was won by J. Anderson. In the Ladies’ Club the aggregate prize was won by Mrs Webb (1411 points). The Handicap Cup was won by Mrs J Anderson, with 1423 points. Mr Parcell related the progress the club had made in the Central Otago district as a pioneer club, now in Its tenth anniversary.
