FREIGHT CONTRACT
SHIPPING COMPANIES AND ! , .government: RESULT OF DISCUSSIONS NOT KNOWN [CFRQM OJJR PARLIAMENTARY REPORTER) WELLINGTON; Aug. 23. The final result of the discussions between the shipping companies and the New Zealand Government on freight contract is not yet known, according to a written answer given by the Acting Prime Minister (Mr P. • Fraser) in the House ■of Representatives to-day to a question by Mr H. G. Dickie (Opposition, Patea). The present freight contract runs out on August 30. " The honourable member will be aware that no ; agreement was reached with the shipping companies' representatives dunng the discussions held with them while they were in New Zealand," said Mr Fraser. " The discussions were resumed when the Minister of Marketing was in Loridon, and subsequently communications have been exchanged. The final result of the discussions and communications is liot yet known, but as soon as some definite decision is arrived at the House will be informed.
