Sir John Reith, interviewed by the News Chi'onicle, said: “I want Imperial Airways to carry on the Empire passenger services, even if they have to buy foreign planes. If I had my way they would still be operating, but there is official opposition to the purchase of foreign aircraft.” The Air Ministry declares that it is anxious to help Imperial Airways, but the question of using Royal Air Force bombers cannot be decided in a minute. The Ministry is considering the matter, and a statement will be issued in due course. GERMANY INTERESTED BERLIN, Aug. 9. The German press gives prominence to Imperial Airways’ decision. It declares that Germany not only produces civil aeroplanes for her own services in the midst of rearmament work.but exports them to Holland, Japan, Denmark. Finland and South America.
