AIRLINER TURNS BACK

USE OF EMERGENCY GROUND Conditions at the Taieri aerodrome yesterday were such as to make it impossible for the southbound Union Airways liner to land, and it had perforce to turn back, making use of the emergency ground at Waianakarua. Passengers and mail were transferred to a Railways road service bus which arrived in Dunedin at 6.45 last night. There was no improvement in the weather last evening, the visibility remaining as bad as ever, and the "zero ceiling" showing no signs of lifting It was, therefore, decided that any decision as to the running of the service for the north to-day would have to be made this morning, and if conditions by that time permit, the plane will be flown down to pick up passengers and mail. If the liner is still unable to land at the Taieri airport, these will leave by bus at 7 o'clock for Waianakarua.
