BETTER FACILITIES DESIRED PROPOSAL TO RAISE £25,000 (Per United Press Association) WANGANUI. Aug. 9. Referring to the discussion in Parliament regarding the Wanganui Harbour Board Empowering Amendment Bill, to raise £25,000. the chairman (Mr N G. Armstrong) states: " The board has no intention of attempting to make a deepsea port, but to provide better facilities for the vessels of the size, of the phosphate boats now trading to Castlecliff. It is proposed to carry out dredging for berths, using the dredge Kaione to provide extra wharf accommodation costing £SOOO. and extra shed accommodation costing £IO.OOO. When this work is finished there should be no need for any extra finance for manv years, and Wanganui will have a serviceable secondary harbour. The loan indebtedness of the board is £550,000. and the money now reauired would be the means of enabling the board to increase its revenue without throwing further cost on ratepayers."
