WOMEN'S DIVISION N.Z. FARMERS' UNION

The monthly meeting of the Glenomaru branch was held on Saturday last, when Mrs Wilson presided. The roll call was. "A stove-cleaning hint." The competition,*esulted:—Home-made soap Leslie 1, Mrs Searle 2, Mrs Wilson 3; sponge roll (juniors)—Misses Wright 1. M. Mudie 2.

The July meeting of the MahenoIncholme branch was presided over by Mrs Grant. The roll call was, " Something humorous that happened this year." The competitions resulted:—lced butter sponge—Mrs Livingstone 1, Mrs Newlands and Miss Mitchell (equal) 2; plain butter sponge—Miss Kelcher 1, Mrs Grant 2, Miss V. Currie 3. The Maheno hall was beautifully decorated for the eight birthday of the branch. Miss Wilson and Mr McGregor won the prize for the first on the floor, and Miss V. Currie and Mr O. Pringle were successful in the Monte Carlo waltzinr competition. Mrs Innes cut the cake she had given to the branch. During the dance Mr I. McWhirter rendered songs.

An interesting address on Oamaru's Centennial Memorial was given at the monthly meeting of the Hildertborpe branch on Saturday, when Mrs McLatchie presided. Mrs R. B. Meek was the speaker, and it was agreed to assist in raising funds for the project. A motion of sympathy was Dassed with the relatives of Mrs J. B. Chapman. Mrs McKenzie secured most points in the premier bloom competition, and Mesdames Paton and McKenzie came second.

The Clydevale branch held its monthly meeting on August 1, when Mrs Kee presided, and Mesdames Caldwell and Christie gave a much appreciated report of the annual Provincial Conference. It was decided to enter handcraft articles in the competition for work to be displayed at the Centennial Exhibition. Prior to the meeting the Clydevale and Greenfield branches entertained the Young Farmers of South Otago to luncheon.

The monthly meeting of the Cromwell branch was held on August 3 and was presided over by Mrs R. Ritchie, A competition—best pot of jam—resulted:—Mrs Hansen 1. Mrs Major 2. Mrs J. D. Smith gave an interesting demonstration on hairpin work. The hostesses were Mesdames Ward Webber and Thomas. * * *

The monthly meeting of the Clutha branch was held on Friday last, when Mrs A. J. Bell occupied the chair. Arrangements for the annual social were discussed, and it was suggested that if suitable arrangements could be made with the Farmers' Union it should take the form ot a banquet. A trio " There's Music in the Air." was sung by Mesdames Anderson Boyd and Bell and two songs were given by Mrs J P. Boyd. Mrs MacFarlane reported on the recent conference in Wellington. The hostesses were Mrs L. Mosley and M*s C. H. Taylor.
