LONDON'S MOST FAMOUS KITCHEN

Lady Louis Mountbatten's famous penthouse, built on top of the new Brook House that has replaced the old Park Lane mansion of her grandfather, is said to contain the finest kitchen in London, says a writer in the Sydney Morning Herald. It is presided over by an Austrian chef who once had a kitchen staff of 180 people working for him. Now he has three helpers, and says he can do more in half the time it is all a question of ingenious planning. There is only one kitchen, but it is a large room, made airv by a series of tall windows opening out on to a terrace, and no inch of space is wasted. A floor of black and white checked rubber, and white-painted walls tiled halfway up in white, provide a practical background for a gas oven large enough to' cook 40 chickens at a time, a refrigerator on a heroic scale, flanked on either side by grocery cupboards, and a special fitment beneath the windows consisting of a vegetable preparing table, a sink, a marble pastry ledge. There is a big kitchen table generously supplied with drawers, and cupboards taking the innumerable copper Dots and pans, and fireproof dishes occupy the whole of one wall. Not one unnecessary step is taken in this kitchen nothine is there that is not needed, everything is planned for the sake of convenience—and Monsieur Brinz is perfectly happy.

The sheen that is on. of the charms of satin mav be retained in the wash by soaking the garment for five or six minutes in water to which a teaspoonful of vinegar has been added. Then use soap flakes without changing the water.
