AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP A large attendance at the Returned Soldiers' Association Clubroom last evening witnessed the first round game in the Amateur Billiards Championship. The contestants were H. Fiddes and A. Bowie. The former was making a creditable showing on his first appearance in championship company. Bowie took the lead early in the game and scoring consistently reached 224 when his opponent was 103. Fiddes played some fine individual shots, but was not favoured by the run of the balls Bowie maintained his lead to the finish and ran out an easy winner by 666-399 Bowie made breaks of 50. 48, 43, 42 (unfinished), 38, 33. 30 (twice), and Fiddes. r\f 37 20 24 This evening the holder of the title, E. N. Stewart, will play J. Pearce On Saturday evening Bowie will play Mason. The final will be played on Monday and Tuesday—two sessions or 500 uo.
