HOCKEY

MEETING OF WOMEN'S EXECUTIVE The weekly meeting of the Otago Women's Hockey Association's executive was held on Monday, when Mrs Sonntag (in the chair), Misses Morton, Harley, Fairbairn and Marshall and Mr Wallace were present. It was decided to hold a meeting of players in all grades in the Caledonian Society s rooms to-night at 7.15 o'clock to arrange further for the carnival with the Kaikorai Band at the end of September. August 26 was set aside as the date for the annual matches of both A and B Grades against South Otago and North Otago. * , _ t , Advice was received from the South Otago Hockey Association that its annual seven-a-side tourney would be held in Milton on September 2. A deputation attended from the Otago Hockey Association and discussed ways of raising funds. It was decided to hold a jumble sale, and players from both associations were asked to collect articles or clothing suitable for sale. A tentative nate was fixed for September 1. FIJIAN TOURING TEAM ROTORUA DEFEATED (Per United Press Association) ROTORUA, Aug. 8. In the third match of its New Zealand tour the Fijian hockey team today defeated a Rotorua side by three goals to nil. after an interesting and fast game. The visitors' combination and better understanding of tactics proved the deciding factor.
