Mounted Rifle Brigade. Dated June 1, 1939. Colonel J. H. Saunders, D. 5.0., V.D., is appointed to command the 2nd N.Z. Infantry Brigade. Dated June 1,1939. Colonel S. D. Mason, E.D., is ap» pointed to command the 3rd, N.Z. Infantry Brigade. Dated June 1, 1939. Lieutenant-colonel L. C. Chaytor, M.C. V.D., from the Reserve of Officers, the Nelson-Marlborough Mounted Rifles, to be colonel, and is appointed to command the 3rd N.Z. Mounted Rifle Brigade. Dated June 1. 1939. Lieutenant-colonel B. W. H. Smart, Queen Alexandra's (Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles, is appointed to command the regiment. Dated June I. 1939 Major G. S. Wilson, the Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles, is appointed to command the regiment. Dated June 1, 1939, • Regiment of N.Z. Artillery.—Lieutenant F. S. Salinger, from the Reserve of Officers to be lieutenant, with seniority from June 1, 1939, and is posted to the 14th Medium Battery Dated July 19 1939. . Regular Air Force.—A temporary unit in the United Kingdom is formed, to be called the New Zealand Squadron, with headquarters at the Royal Air Force Station, Marham, King's Lynn, Norfolk. England. Dated June 1, 1939, OTAGO DIVISION. R.N.V.R. Weekly Training Training at the divisional headquarters was resumed this week as follows: — Monday.—Voluntary instruction in seamanship, visual and wireless signalling on the conclusion of 22 rifle firin£ Drscticcs Tuesday.—Official training night for all signal ratings who continued instruction in practical signalling by means of semaphore, flashing lamp and flag hoisting in conjunction with signal books. Wednesday.—Official training night for all seamen and wireless ratings who on the completion of inspection at divisions proceeded to instructions bv classes as follows. New Entries.—Ratings who have recently enrolled in the division were "kitted up" and instructed in the wearing and care and maintenance of their uniforms. Seamanship.—Senior seamanship to parts of a boat and sails. Gunnery.—Acting gunlayer? to instructing senior eunnerv class at fourInch B.L. gun drill. Minesweeping.—Ratings under instruction in minesweeping continued the series of lectures on mines, minefields, and minesweeping operations. Signals.—Signal ratings continued instruction in the practical application of code books. Wireless.—Wireless ratings continued practical W/T communication nrocedure execsises with the naval W/T station at Wellington and other R.N.V.R. W/T stations. Next Training Training will be carried out at the divisional headquarters .on Monday. Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week. The syllabi"- of training already in operation will be proceeded with. THE OTAGO REGIMENT Training Progresses It is pleasing to note that the re-cently-enrolled recruits backed by the older and tried members tot the regiment are taking a keen interest in their training. Every parade shows marked improvement in work and . general bearing. At last week's »rade the syllabus for the year was advanced. Headquarters Company The specialists of the headquarters company carried out their own particular work. Captain M. D. Harvey, in his company routine order, intimates that a week-end camp will be held early in September. The following promotions in the company have been approved, those of sergeant being subject to confirmation by the passing of an examination: — To be company sergeant-major, Sergeant A. J. Smeaton; to be company quartermaster-sergeant. Lance-corporal B. Haig; to be sergeant, Corporal A, G. M. Gillies; to be corporal, Lancecorporal J. R. Bruce; to be lance-cor-porals, Privates R. Arnold and R. Reid. "A" Company "A" Company was occupied, during last week's parade, with infantry and light machine gun training Support Company The Support Company devoted the evening to machine gun and mortar training.
