CONTRACT IN IRAQ

BRITISH FIRM SUCCESSFUL DIVERTING FLOOD WATERS (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, July 19. (Received July 20, at 7 p.m.) The British engineering firm of Balfour, Beatty and Co. secured a £900,000 contract from the Government of Iraq for the construction of works near Ramadi, designed to arrest extensive flooding of the Euphrates and so convert thousands of acres of waterlogged land into valuable agricultural areas. The scheme provides for diverting the flood waters at a point about 50 miles west of Baghdad and convey them into lake Habbaniyah. The work will occupy four years.
