QUEENSTOWN Basketball Rgvers A v. St. Joseph's.—The two top teams in the district met on the Queenstown Park courts on Wednesday afternoon, when a hard and fast game resulted in a win for Rovers A by 22 points to St. Joseph’s 15.: Rovers had the lead all the time and,, at present, are the superior team; St. Joseph’s pulled up in the second half. Miss Calder controlled the game. Arrowtown v. Shotover.—This match was played on the Shotover ground in bleak weather. Mrs Brown and Mrs Waldron deserve special mention in the Shotover team, while all the Arrowtown players performed well. Results: Arrowtown 6. Shotover 2. Band Carnival A produce sale In aid of funds for the Citizens’ Princess was held in the Royal Cafe, Queenstown, on Saturday afternoon. The produce, which - Included poultry, rabbits; jam and cakes, met with a ready sale. Mrs J. Chalmers was in charge of the stall. Miniature Rifle Shooting At the weekly shoot of the Ranfurly Club, held on Monday night, the shooting was of quite a good standard, and an average of 77.7 for the first 10 men was satisfactory, J. P. During the week-end a team of women and men visited the Omakau Club. The weather was rather cold, with a southwest wind blowing. > > The games finished fairly even. Before the visitors left Mr Harper, on behalf of the Omakau Club, thanked the local club for the visit and expressed a wish that the games would be played every year. Mr R. A. Long, club captain, who responded on behalf of Ranfurly, assured the Omakau Club that in future such games would be drawn up in their list of matches for the season. Mr M. Mullin,.: who for the past 20 years has been Post and Telegraph linesman stationed at Ranfurly, left last week on transfer to Dunedin. Prior to his departure from the district Mr Mullin was tendered a complimentary social at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. E. Kearney. “Derry Farm.” During the evening Mr E. J. Murphy, on behalf of the Ranfurly Bowlin* Club, presented Mr Mulhn with a travelling rug and expressed regret-at the club losing a willing worker and keen playing member. On behalf of the residents of the Maniototo district, Mr J. E. Kearney presented Mr Mullin with a cheque, making particular reference to his courtesy and attention and also to the very pleasant relationship that he had had with all subscribers. Other speakers endorsed Mr Kearney’s remarks. Mr Mullin suitably replied. Mr Mullin was also th'e recipient of a pipe and a suede tobacco pouch from the members of the Ranfurly and Naseby Post Offices. In making the presentation, Mr G, Gilbert referred to Mr Mullin’s long and conscientious service in the district and wished him and his family every success in the future. Badminton The local badminton club had its first match of the . season when the Lauder Club visited here on Thursday night of last week. Although the visiting club won by 11 sets to 5, some close and interesting sets were played. The Lauder lady players were superior to those of the home side.
