SOUTH OTAGO SUB-UNION MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The executive of the South Otago Sub-union met on Tuesday night, Mr J, P. Lyall presiding in the absence of the president (Mr Walker). A welcome was extended to Mr A. E. Lock, who had been appointed to fill a vacancy on the executive. Permission was granted to the South Otago High School to play Otago Boys’ High School at Balclutha on July 19. J. Stuck was granted a transfer from Tuatapere to Toko. Saturday next, July 15, was accepted as the date for the match with Eastern Southland at Balclutha, and Mr Lyall was appointed manager of the South Otago team.

The secretary of the South Tuapeka Sub-union wrote suggesting August 19 as the date for the match with South Otago at Lawrence.—Accepted. Mr D. M. Inglis, referee of the Clinton v. Clutha Second Grade match at Clinton on July 1. reported having ordered off J. Kelly' (Clinton).—After hearing the referee’s report, the player concerned, and the Clinton, captain, it was decided to place Kelly’s name on the “cautioned” list. It was decided that no matches be played in South Otago on July 29 and August 5, the dates of the SouthlandOtago matches at Invercargill and Dunedin respectively.—Considerable discussion took place as to the advisability of putting off fixtures on two successive Saturdays, but ultimately it was agreed to do so, for the reason that there would be difficulty in fielding teams, owing to the interest that would be created by the representative matches.

It was decided that the Boyd Cup Second Grade competition should be for one round only, all matches to be played at Balclutha, with the exception of the Crescent-Union match, which would be played at Clarksville. The annual match for the Teachers’ Cup between the premier teams of the Tuapeka Sub-union (Miller’s Flat) and South Tuapeka (Tuapeka Mouth) was played at Tuapeka Mouth; Tuapeka won by nine points to six. Despite the bad weather there was a good attendance to watch an interesting match. Naturally the game was confined mainly to the forwards. The Miller’s Flat forwards were the heavier pack. They showed a better knowledge of the finer points of the game,'*and thus secured possession from most of the scrums and line-outs. McClelland and Morrison were prominent. The Tuapeka Mouth forwards showed to advantage in the loose, and, narrowly missed scoring on a number of occasions. The result, a win for Miller’s Flat by 9 points to 6 (two tries and a penalty goal to two tries) was a fair indication of the game. Miller’s Flat deserved its win by. reason of its superior team work. Mr W. Caldwell was referee. After the match the Miller’s Flat team was entertained to afternoon tea. when the cup was presented to the captain of the winning team.
