SUGGESTED APPOINTMENT OF NEW ZEALANDER DR D. G. McMILLAN’S VIEWS (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 12. A hope that the Government would go into the question of securing for one term at least the appointment of a New Zealander as Governor-General of the Dominion was expressed by Dr D. G. McMillan (Govt., Dunedin West), when speaking in the Address-in-Reply debate in the House of Representatives to-night. Dr McMillan said that he did not suggest that it should become the practice to appoint a New Zealander, but he thought the appointment of a New Zealand citizen for one tgan v/ould be a move in the right direction. He was sure that if the suggestion were adopted no one would fill the office better than the Speaker of the House (Mr W. E, Barnard).
