ASSOCIATION’S MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Automobile Association (Otago) was held last night, and was attended by Messrs P. W, Breen (in the chair), H. H. Henderson, J. L. Passmore, A. E. Ansell, A. Bingham, A. J. Campbeil, W. L. Coxhead, G. W. Ferens H. L. Gibson, W. A. Jenkins, J. Y. Love, W. J. Mclnnes. J. J. Purdie. H. S. Reid. H. L. Sprosen. C. W. Sundstrum, G. T. Thorn and E. W. Watts. Emerirency Transport On behalf of the Emergency Transport Committee, Mr Passmore said that the committee had given the whole question of emergency transport full consideration, and it was thought that circular letters should be sent out to members. The association could not finance this, and an unsuccessful attempt had been made to get assistance from the Government. It was also pointed out that members whose cars suffered damage in a practice run could not receive insurance, and the Government was asked to assist in this matter also. The report was received. Purakanui Road In answer to a letter from, the association asking that something be done to the road to Purakanui, which was stated to be in a highly dangerous condition, the clerk of the Waikoualti County Council replied that the letter had been received. “ That means that the council is not going to do anything about the road,” said Mr Mclnnes. “It is a most unsatisfactory reply.” It was decided to place the matter before the Highways Board. New Members One hundred and one new members were elected, bringing the total to date to 5774. Improvements to Rooms Reporting on behalf of the House Committee, Mr Love said that it was recommended that alterations be carried out in the clubrooms to extend the counter and give the staff more room. It was also recommended that the sum of £45 be expended on new chairs and rugs for the lounge. It was decided to have the alterations carried out, but to refer the proposal for the purchase of new furniture to the Finance Committee.
