BUTTER SALES AT HOME

CHARGES OF MULTIPLE SHOPS INFORMATION SOUGHT (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 11. An explanation by the Prime Minister (Mr M. J. Savage) of a statement that the multiple shops in Great Britain charged more for retailing New Zealand butter than they did for selling Danish, is sought by Mr W. J. Poison (Opposition, Stratford) in a question of which he gave notice in the House of Representatives to-day. Mr Poison is asking the Prime Minister whether in view of the claim made by the Minister of Marketing (Mr W. Nash), that because of his policy the premiums enjoyed by Continental butters had been substantially reduced, he would explain a statement made in the trade press that the multiple shops of Great Britain charged 3d per lb to the public for retailing New Zealand butter, but only 3d for retailing Danish. He is also asking Mr Savage what steps he intends to take to remove this handicap of 2id per lb, under which a substantial proportion of New Zealand butter is apparently selling.
