Reports of meetings of branches are requested, but they should be furnished promptly, for ihe publication of reports that are not supplied within a week from the date of the meeting cannot be promised The Glenomaru branch held its monthly meeting on' Saturday last, when Mrs Goughian presided. The roll cal] was. “A flower beginning with the first letter of your name.” The competition resulted; Tailored buttonhole: Senior—Mrs Leslie 1. Mrs Mudie 2, Mrs Searl 3. Junior—Miss D. Bulliman 1, Misses M. Mudie and J. Kerr (equal) 2. * * * The monthly 'meeting of the Clutha branch was held on Friday last. Mrs A. J, Bell presiding. Members were pleased to welcome Mrs Elliot (provincial president), wno gave an interesting talk on division activities. Miss Borrie (provincial secretary), who was also present, wished the branch another successful year. Each visitor was presented with a spray of flowers by Mrs MacFarlane. The hostesses were Mrs Knarston and Mrs Brown. •V * The Waikouaiti branch held its monthly meeting on Thursday evening last, Mrs J. Townsend presiding. The roll call was. “ Your favourite flower.” A new member Mrs A. Orbell, jun., was welcomed. The hostesses were Mesdames A. Orbell and J. Payne, and Misses A. Valentine and N. Wilson.

The Lauder-Becks branch held its monthly meeting on Wednesday last. In the absence of Mrs Hamilton, the chair was occunied by the vice-presi-dent. Mrs A. E. Thurlow. The roll call was. “A marmalade recipe.” The competition—best jar .of marmalade—was won by Mrs Monk, with Mrs Hoskin second and Mrs A. Brown third. The hostesses were Mesdames Thurlow and Wingham.

There was a large attendance at the June meeting of the BerwickMaungatua branch, when members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union and Young Farmers’ Club, as well as visitors from adjoining branches, listened to an interesting address on “ Economic Problems in a Changing World,” given by Dr Billing, of the Otago University. Mr Brailsford (W.E.A.) also gave a short address, and Mrs Bruce Miller (president) returned thanks to both speakers. Earlier in the evening a presentation was made to Mrs Spencer (retiring president). « * *

The Milburn-Clarendon branch held its monthly meeting at Milburn. Mrs Arthur Carr, vice-president, presiding. The roll calls were “ Things I like and things I dislike ” and “ Quick puddings.” The competitions resulted: Something new out of something old— Mrs Young 1; flower—Mrs J. Kane. sen.. 1, Mrs Ashworth 2, Mrs Cullen 2; bloom 1, Mrs Ashworth 2, Mrs Cullen 3; bloom Kane, jun.. 3. An instructive talk, “Hints in Sewing” was given by Mrs Wendelken, of Milton. The hostesses were Mesdames Whittaker and Mackersey * * *

The roll call at the June meeting of the Livingstone branch, over which Mrs Barnes presided, was, “A savoury tea dish.” The competitions resulted:— Best bloom; Mrs R. C, Cook 1, Mrs J. J. Cook 2, Mrs Clark 3. Collection of sweets: Mrs Kennedy 1, Mrs R. C. Cook 2. Mrs J. W. Cook 3. The amusement competition, arranged by Mrs J .J. Cook, was won by Mrs Samuelson. Mrs Barnes was hostess.

The monthly meeting of the Tarras branch was held at the residence of Mrs Jenkins on Thursday last, Mrs Purvis presiding. The roll call was, “A limerick,” and the motto, “ Life without friendship is like a sky without sun.” The competitions resulted:— Three pikelets: Miss Ethel Jones 1, Miss E. Hansen 2. Miss Jolly gave a practical demonstration of methods employed in attending to a sick patient. The hostesses were Miss Eileen Jones and Miss F. Scott.

Try the following plan when some careless person stands one tumbler in another, and you find it difficult to separate them: —Fill the inner tumbler with cold water (this will cause the glass to contract), and at the same time stand the outer one in hot water (this will make the outer glass expand). After a few minutes it will be quite easy to separate them.
