BRILLIANT YOUNG DANCER

ROWENA JACKSON TO GIVE RECITAL There have been predictions that, if she goes abroad to study, Rowena Jackson will develop her dancing art to match the brilliance of ballerinas steeped in the fame of ballet dancing. Espinosa (who laid down the syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dancing), M. Dandre (impresario and husband of the incomparable Anna Pavlova), Anton Dolin, Irina Baronova, and David Lichine, who all immediately leap to the memory whenever the ballet is discussed, have heaped the highest praise on this child prodigy. The golden chance of receiving tuition has already been given, and efforts arc now being made to raise funds in this country. Rowena has recently returned to Dunedin from Invercargill, where she gave a recital, assisted by local performers, in the southern city. There the public acclaimed her, and the result was that the proceeds amounted to about £IOO, including several generous donations. A similar recital is to be given by this 13-year-old girl at His Majesty's Theatre on May 25. It will be recalled that when the Russian Ballet was in Dunedin, Mme Baronova and M. Anton Dolin were so enthusiastic about Rowena Jackson's talent that they gave her free private less >ns. Further, M. Dolin has already guaranteed her advanced study in the leading schools of the world. Several leading Dunedin artists will contribute to the programme.
